American Leak Detection saves Golden Estates Community over $100,000 on yearly water bill

The Golden Estates Mobile Home Community, located just outside Atlanta, received a $27,000 water bill in January 2011 when Manager Crissy King said she “just wanted to cry.” Instead, she decided to investigate what happened. Although she suspected a massive water leak, there was little evidence to prove it- no water bubbled from the pavement and their gutters ran dry. The community used 850,000 gallons of water in one month, 34 times their average, and it had to be going somewhere.

King contacted two plumbers to investigate potential leaks, but neither discovered the source. After researching American Leak Detection of Atlanta through the Better Business Bureau, she decided to hire them. Now, four service calls and seven leaks later, the dilemma is solved.

The 50-acre mobile home community in Douglasville includes 234 lots. Although the property owner is responsible for maintaining the underground water lines, each home has its own sub-meter. Technicians shut off each lot’s sub-meter, concluding the main meter was still leaking 25 gallons of water per minute. It was finally determined the leaks were caused by aging pipes located 7 feet beneath the surface.

“We expect to save more than $100,000 every year on our water bills,” King said. “So, as you can imagine, my bosses are very happy the staff has been proactive in tackling this problem. Where other companies had failed us, American Leak Detection came through.”

To maintain their current usage of 25,000 gallons of water per month, King said the owner plans to repair all future leaks once they are found. The property received a $20,000 credit from the local water authority in 2011.

Central Virginia owners support cause and care of homeless animals

Owners of American Leak Detection of Central Virginia, Terry and Beth Neu, have made it their mission to give back to the city of Richmond because, they say, their community has given them so much.

The couple purchased their service territory in August 2004 and has since made it a priority to support worthy causes which are close to their hearts. A commercial client of the Neu’s, Douglas Aquatics, introduced them to the Richmond Animal League and they have supported them ever since.

Describing themselves as “huge animal lovers,” Terry Neu said he makes it a point to ask his residential customers about each of their pets.

“Discussing homeowners’ animals is a common ground,” he said. “It automatically puts them at ease and shows them you have something in common- that you’re not just a stranger there to do the job.”

As the owners of a beagle/shepherd mix, the Neu’s said they feel obligated to contribute to their community’s health and wellbeing and supporting low cost spay and neuter clinics will make a huge difference in the long run.

The Richmond Animal League has matched homeless dogs and cats with families since 1979. Their facility can house up to 30 dogs and 60 cats. They placed more than 800 animals in forever homes last year. For more information, visit http://www.ral.org

Wayne McCollough of Tulsa, Ok. was named the company’s Brand Champion for 2010. This recognition honors an individual that executes a successful marketing plan, one who makes the most of a broad mix of marketing activities and utilizes corporate programs to their advantage. McCollough was also named an Outstanding Regional Performer in the Midwest region for 2010. More than 140 offices in eight countries are considered for these awards annually.

Thomas Walker of Brighton, Mich. was named the company’s Technician of the Year for 2010. This award recognizes a technician who exemplifies the best qualities of the profession. Someone who strives to stay on top of the industry’s best practices, technologies and exudes customer service. Technicians from over 140 offices in eight countries are considered for this award annually.

“Thomas has all the standards we look for in a superior technician,” said Jimmy Carter, senior director of corporate field services. “From the number of positive letters, notes and phone calls the franchisees receive from customers, there is no doubt the tech provides great customer service. Because of the seasonality of the territory where he works, he frequently spends his winters working for several other franchisees and they all have great things to say about him.”

Walker was nominated by Tom and Marcia Rose, owners of American Leak Detection of Southeast Michigan. He has worked as a technician for nine years.

Rick Winters of Spring, Tx. was named the company’s Office Personnel of the Year for 2010. This award recognizes an individual who strives to stay on top of the industry’s best practices, keeps the office running efficiently and exudes superior customer service. Office personnel from over 140 offices in eight countries are considered for this award annually.

Phil and Robin Meckley of Fullerton, Calif. were named the franchise system’s Outstanding National Performer for 2010. This award recognizes the top producer amongst 140 offices in eight countries. They also received a Quality Customer Service Award for their Houston location.

The Meckley’s have owned American Leak Detection locations for 25 years in Orange County, Riverside, Pomona, San Diego, Houston and Hawaii. They employ a total of 40 staff and operate 25 service trucks.

Canadian Leak Detection of Ontario Owners Paul and Evelyn Gavel were awarded the most prestigious honor, Franchisee of the Year. More than 140 offices in eight countries are considered for this award annually. It recognizes exemplary and model performance in customer service, increased revenue, franchise system participation and community service.

This was the first year a Canadian office was awarded Franchisee of the Year. For the fourth consecutive year, they were also named Outstanding Regional Performers in the Northeast Region. The Gavels, who reside in Frankford, Ontario, have owned their Canadian Leak Detection office since 1996. Their leak detection technicians service Toronto, Northern and Eastern Ontario.

Joe and Aimee Bates of Redding, CA received the Rookie of the Year Award for 2010. This recognition honors a team member who has put American Leak Detection procedures into action pertaining to equipment, trucks, safety, the business plan and marketing tactics. More than 140 offices in eight countries are considered for this award annually.

The Bates purchased American Leak Detection of Northern California from Aimee’s parents, Tom and Karen Routon, when they chose to retire in 2008.

“This team is showing strong growth within a relatively rural territory,” says Bill Palmer, company president. “They have been involved with their region activities as well as the California Rural Water Association.
