English councillor upset residents not concerned about water conservation

A Worchester, England, councillor is upset that gallons of water are being lost daily due to two leaks in the plumbing. The councillor said nobody is fixing the plumbing or attempting to conserve the water, even though the leaks are visibly dumping large amounts of water.

The councillor says the leaks have been going on for several weeks, but he is upset that nobody besides him has reported them, especially because the entire county along with 17 counties in the area are in a drought and are supposed to be conserving water. The drought is expected to last until Christmas, according to the Environment Agency.

"As more areas of the U.K. move into drought it is vital that we use less water to protect the public's water supply in the driest areas of the country," Environment Secretary Caroline Spelman told BBC. "It is for everyone to share the responsibility to save water."

The area's water authority spokesman told Worcester News there was an initial report made on February 10, however, they did not see any water leaking at the time. She did add, however, that she will have staff looking at the leaks and fixing them as soon as possible. Residents are urged to report any other incidents.
