Why Homeowners Trust Our Leak Detection
When water is where it should not be, you need more than guesswork. You need a team that can locate the problem accurately and help protect the rest of your home. That is why many homeowners in Spring turn to American Leak Detection of Houston when they suspect a leak.
Our company has focused on leak detection for over 40 years. Over that time, we have become a recognized leader in locating hidden leaks in homes, commercial buildings, and municipal systems. This long history matters because it means our methods, tools, and training have been refined again and again to deliver reliable results.
We use state-of-the-art equipment that is built for one purpose: finding leaks with precision. Our technicians are thoroughly trained to work through your plumbing system in a systematic way, checking pressurized water lines, drain lines, and buried piping as needed. This careful process helps us confirm what is happening, instead of creating more openings in your walls or floors to search by trial and error.
Homeowners also tell us they value the way we work inside their homes. Our goal is to arrive when we say we will, communicate clearly, and treat every space we enter with respect. We strive to leave work areas tidy when we are finished so the only sign of our visit is the information you now have about your plumbing leak.
Cost concerns are another reason people hesitate to call for help. Our Know Before You Go pricing approach is designed to reduce that stress. We discuss pricing before we start work, so you understand what to expect. Our goal is to help you avoid unnecessary expenses that can come from misdiagnosed leaks or excessive demolition.
Signs You May Have A Hidden Leak
You may not be able to see water spraying from a pipe, but your home often gives subtle signals that something is wrong. Recognizing these early can help you limit damage and keep repair costs under better control.
In many houses, the first sign is a water bill that does not match your normal usage. If your daily routine has not changed, but your bill has, that extra water usually has to be going somewhere. You might also hear a faint sound of running or hissing water when no fixtures are on, especially at night when the house is quiet.
Some homeowners in this area notice warm or damp spots on floors, particularly over slab foundations. Others find soft drywall, peeling paint, or discoloration around baseboards or ceilings. Slow drains, gurgling sounds, or unpleasant odors can indicate issues in the drain or sewer side of the plumbing system.
Common signs that may point to a hidden water leak include:
- Unexplained increase in water bills over one or more cycles
- Sounds of running or dripping water when fixtures are off
- Warm, damp, or spongy spots on floors or carpets
- Musty smells, mildew growth, or new staining on walls or ceilings
- Soil that stays soggy, or lush patches of grass over buried lines
- Slow drains or new sewer odors inside or near the home
These signs do not always confirm a leak on their own, but together they are strong reasons to get your plumbing checked. Our team can evaluate what you are noticing, then determine if plumbing leak detection is warranted before residential plumbing leak repair begins.
Sledgehammers are not diagnostic tools. Don't let a contractor tear up your drywall based on a hunch. We find the exact pipe failure using acoustic tech and fix it cleanly. Types Of Residential Leaks We Find
Homes in Spring use a mix of construction styles and plumbing layouts. Some have slab foundations with piping encased in concrete. Others rely on crawlspaces, attics, or long service lines that cross front yards to reach the house. Leaks can develop in any of these areas over time.
On the pressurized supply side, leaks often occur in lines that feed bathrooms, kitchens, or laundry rooms. These leaks can be hidden behind walls, under floors, or beneath the slab. Even a small opening in a supply pipe can allow water to run continuously, which is why bills climb and surfaces warm or soften.
Drain and sewer line issues are different, but just as disruptive. A crack or separation in a drain line can let wastewater escape into soil, crawlspaces, or under the slab. In some cases, homeowners notice persistent sewer odors, slow drains throughout the home, or wet areas in the yard near the path of the sewer line.
Outside, service lines that run from the municipal meter to the house, or to irrigation systems, can also develop hidden water leaks. When these lines pass under driveways or mature landscaping, locating the exact problem area before any digging begins can protect hard surfaces and established plants.
Our role is to locate these leaks as accurately as possible, so repair work can be focused. By identifying the source in advance, we ensure our repair team limits how much wall, flooring, or concrete needs to be opened, keeping your final restoration costs to an absolute minimum, which can keep overall costs lower and protect the appearance of your home.
Our Non-Invasive Leak Detection Process
Many homeowners hesitate to call for help because they picture large holes in walls or floors just to search for a leak. Our process is designed to reduce that worry. We focus first on inspection and testing, not demolition.
When you contact American Leak Detection of Houston, our team gathers basic information about what you are seeing or hearing, how long it has been going on, and the type of home you have in Spring. We then schedule a visit at a time that works for you. Our technicians arrive ready to evaluate your specific situation, not just apply a one-size-fits-all checklist.
During the visit, we typically start with a visual walkthrough and a conversation with you about the history of the problem. From there, we may use a combination of tools, such as acoustic listening devices and pressure-based testing, to pinpoint the most likely leak location. These tools allow us to check lines that run in walls, under floors, or beneath slabs without opening large areas of the structure.
Because our technicians receive rigorous training in leak detection methods, they work systematically rather than relying on guesswork. They move through your plumbing system in sections, confirming what is working normally and narrowing focus where readings or sounds indicate a problem. This step-by-step approach helps us locate leaks while keeping materials intact whenever possible.
Once we have identified the likely source, we explain our findings in plain language. You get information about where the leak appears to be, what part of the system is affected, and what that means for potential residential plumbing leak repair. Our goal is to pinpoint the exact breach so our repair specialists can execute the most efficient, targeted fix on the spot.
Throughout the process, we respect your property. We place equipment carefully, protect surfaces when needed, and clean up work areas before we leave. At the end of the visit, you should feel better informed and more in control of your next steps, rather than overwhelmed by new damage.
What To Do If You Suspect A Leak
If you suspect a plumbing leak in your home, it can be tempting to ignore minor signs and hope they go away. In most cases, waiting only gives water more time to move into walls, floors, and foundation materials. Taking a few simple steps can help you protect your home while you arrange for professional help.
First, make a brief note of what you are noticing and when. For example, record when you first heard water running, where you found dampness, or how much your last water bill increased. This information helps our team understand the pattern and choose the best tests to run when we arrive.
If it is safe to do so, you can also check basic items such as toilets that keep running, outdoor spigots that drip, or irrigation timers that may be stuck on. Turning off fixtures that are obviously leaking on the surface can sometimes reduce further damage while you wait for leak detection.
Helpful steps when you think there may be a leak include:
- Write down the signs you see or hear and when they occur
- Compare recent water bills to your normal usage patterns
- Turn off clearly running fixtures or hoses if you can do so safely
- Avoid opening walls or floors yourself without a clear plan
- Call American Leak Detection of Houston to discuss what you are noticing and schedule leak detection
When you contact our team, we talk through your concerns and explain how our process can help. We also review our pricing approach, so you know what to expect. Our goal is to make your next step feel simple and manageable, not stressful.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will leak detection damage my walls or floors?
Our goal is to locate leaks with as little disturbance as possible. We rely on non-invasive tools and testing first, and only recommend opening surfaces when it is genuinely needed to confirm a source. When access is required, we work to keep openings focused and limited.
How much does residential leak detection usually cost?
Costs depend on factors such as the size of your home and how complex the plumbing layout is. Before we begin work, we explain our pricing through our Know Before You Go approach. This way you understand likely charges in advance and can decide how to proceed comfortably.
Can you find leaks under my slab or driveway?
We regularly work with leaks in piping that runs beneath slabs, driveways, and other hard surfaces. Using advanced acoustic and pressure-based tools, our technicians work to narrow down the leak location so any necessary access or excavation can be as focused and efficient as possible.
How long will a typical leak visit take?
Many residential visits can be completed within a few hours, although complex situations may take longer. The exact timing depends on how large the property is and how difficult the leak is to reach. We schedule appointments with enough time to perform careful testing and explain findings.
What happens after you find the source of the leak?
We handle the entire process under one roof. After we identify the likely source and explain our findings, our crew transitions immediately into the actual plumbing repair. You don't have to worry about coordinating with outside contractors. Our detailed information helps repairs focus on the right area and avoid unnecessary extra work.

“Rick and his team provided EXCELLENT service and performed great work in what would have otherwise been a very challenging, stressful situation. There was a leak under our foundation, but with one call to American Leak Detection an incredibly professional team arrived, located the leak, and started repairs. Rick provided updates throughout the process so we knew what needed to happen and why. The pricing was fair and transparent and the work was completed on time (the weather didn't co-operate, but Rick and his team found a way). Major plumbing repairs can be incredibly stressful for any homeowner but ALD made the process a whole lot better. Based on the work and care American Leak Detection took with my home, this is the only plumbing company I would ever call.”- Brenden S.

“WOW, just when you think that the problem with your leaking Spa is going to be a nightmare, along comes American Leak Detection. My Pool and connecting Spa is about 40 years old. The Spa when in operation began to leak. Looked up leak vendors, American Leak quoted a fair price to locate the leak and was able to come out quickly. Shawn, American Leak technician showed up on the time agreed to. Very professional and at the same time friendly explaining in detail what he had found, what had to be done and reduced the agreed price because he identified the issues quickly...…..really, I intended on paying the full amount. He also quoted a price for the necessary repairs again, explaining in detail how and what has to be done by the repair crew. He left the proposal with me without any pressure to move forward and that all I needed to do if I decided to move forward was to schedule the repair with the main office....so far a very pleasant ordeal. I did indeed call the main office the next morning and scheduled the repair. Again on time Casey and a helper arrived for the repair. Casey kept me informed through the entire process. He actually found that all three of my "Jets" were broken/leaking. Both Casey and his helper were a pleasure to interface with. They made the repairs in an expeditious manner. The repairs required Casey to completely penetrate the Spa gunite wall for all three Jets making a hole about 8" square for each. Additionally it required two 8" square holes through my cool deck. That being said I was extremely worried about matching the color of the plaster in the Spa as well as the grey cool deck color. Casey assure me that he would be able to do so pretty good......I was skeptical...….I was wrong to be......Casey was right...………….What an outstanding job and a pleasant experience for me...….my worries were all for nothing...……..I won't hesitate to call or recommend American Leak Detection.....what a great crew...….but wait it didn't end there.....I still had to pay the invoice that was left after Casey and his helper were done...….so I called to pay the invoice and Talked to Heather Riley.........….What can I say just another breath of fresh air....."cudos" to the entire American Leak Detection team...….”- Jack
