An Effective First Look at Residential Water Claims
Water intrusion and plumbing claims can become costly and complicated when the source of the problem is unclear, documentation is incomplete, or multiple contractors provide conflicting findings.
American Leak Detection’s Scalable Desk Reviews provide an effective first look at residential water-loss and plumbing concerns. By reviewing the available claim information remotely, our experienced team can identify unanswered questions, evaluate existing findings, and recommend the appropriate next step.
This approach can help reduce the cost of servicing a claim, improve service planning, and determine whether additional leak detection, cause-and-origin testing, or plumbing services are necessary.
American Leak Detection draws on its nationwide service footprint, experience with more than 60,000 insurance-related claims annually, and approximately 250,000 household visits each year involving water and wastewater problems.
A Second Opinion Based on the Available Evidence
Our team can review:
- Reported water losses
- Suspected plumbing leaks
- High water bills
- Contractor findings
- Leak-detection reports
- Plumbing repair scopes
- Photographs and videos
- Service records
- Customer-provided information
- Estimates and invoices
- Testing results
- Property and plumbing-system information
By reviewing available documentation, photographs, videos, service records, and customer-provided details, ALD can evaluate the situation and recommend an appropriate course of action.
A desk review may help determine:
- Whether the reported findings are supported by the documentation
- Whether the identified source is consistent with the testing performed
- Whether the proposed repair addresses the reported plumbing problem
- Whether additional documentation should be requested
- Whether cause-and-origin testing may be appropriate
- Whether a plumbing repair scope should receive further review
- Whether multiple water sources may be contributing to the loss
Our technical review supports the claims process but does not replace the adjuster’s coverage determination.
-
The adjuster submits the available claim information, photographs, videos, reports, estimates, service records, and specific questions.
-
An experienced American Leak Detection professional evaluates the reported water loss, property information, plumbing findings, testing methods, and proposed repairs.
-
We identify conflicting information, unsupported conclusions, documentation gaps, and areas requiring further investigation.
-
ALD provides recommendations for the most appropriate course of action. This may include requesting additional information, completing targeted testing, scheduling on-site leak detection, performing cause-and-origin services, or obtaining further plumbing evaluation.
-
When an on-site service is necessary, ALD can help coordinate the next step through its nationwide Service Network.
-
American Leak Detection has a nationwide Service Network supported by Salesforce CRM, allowing for more efficient service delivery, secure customer records, timely reporting, and coordinated follow-up.
When a desk review determines that field services are necessary, ALD can help provide a connected path from technical review to:
- On-site leak detection
- Cause-and-origin testing
- Plumbing diagnostics
- Repair evaluation
- Plumbing repairs
- Monitoring-device inspection
- Preventive maintenance
- Ongoing water-risk management
This allows the desk review to serve as more than a written second opinion. It can become the first step in a complete diagnostic and repair solution.
-
Best when reports, photographs, videos, estimates, testing results, or contractor findings are already available and require technical review.
A desk review can help determine whether the existing information is sufficient or whether further investigation is justified.
-
Best when the source cannot be determined from the available documentation, physical testing is needed, or the existing contractor findings cannot be confirmed.
-
Best when the claim requires a more detailed opinion regarding the source, cause, duration, or conditions associated with the reported water loss.
-
Best when a contractor has submitted a proposed scope of work and the adjuster needs an independent assessment of the repair needs and potential solutions.

“This is a fair and honest company. They showed up on time and gave good advice with a fair price. They can be trusted to give accurate information.”- Alda F.

“I had an awful rotten egg smell as soon as I bought our house. After calling two plumbers (who charged me a fee to tell me nothing was wrong), the Gas Company (no gas leak), and the Public Works Department, I finally called American Leak Detection. They came in, investigated with smoke, and fixed the problem. For the first time in two months, my house doesn't smell like a restaurant toilet. Highly recommend them!”- Sandi T.

“I can't say enough good things about their service! We had a slab leak that flooded the master bedroom and they came as quickly as they could and then rearranged their work schedule so the repair could be made and we could once again have water turned on. The workmen were professional and efficient. I hope I never have to use that kind of service again but if so, they are he best.”- Carolyn R.

“Tree roots had cracked my filter pipes and I was losing water badly. I was referred to American Leak Detection and set up an appointment. Daniel came out and did his best to diagnose the problem. He got very strange results and it was hard to determine the exact pipe(s) that were cracked but since I'd had a similar repair done 6 years ago and we could see evidence of the tree root damage from above, I felt confident we knew were the issue was and I contracted for the work. I was pleasantly surprised to see Daniel return to perform the work. I arranged to be home that day so I could see what he found. I supposed I hovered, taking pictures of the process, asking questions as he went along. He never got annoyed and answered every question with a smile. I don't think i ever saw anyone work harder. It was obvious from that start he had a lot of experience and knew what he was doing. Digging out the area had to be done mostly by hand which he did efficiently without complaints. He found multiple pipes cracked which explained the odd results during diagnosis. The job took longer than expected because it was difficult work and he ran out of daylight but on the job until he it wasn't possible anymore that day. Even though he was fully booked for the following day, his company rearranged his schedule so he could return the following afternoon. I returned home early from work and was able to see him complete the job. He even patched the deck with new concrete like an artisan, taking every care to make it as smooth and neat as possible. After 30 years in this house, we have had many service people come to do work. No one has ever delivered better than Daniel. He was competent, diligent, and pleasant. The cost wasn't cheap but it was fair. I don't mind at all paying for quality service.”- String R.
