Water Distribution Systems in Las Vegas
Leak Detection Without Destruction™, Innovating Since 1974
Undetected leaks in water distribution systems cost commercial operators and municipal utilities far more in Southern Nevada than elsewhere. The Las Vegas Valley draws roughly 90 percent of its water supply from Lake Mead, and Nevada holds a fixed Colorado River allocation of 300,000 acre-feet annually. Every gallon lost to a hidden distribution leak is a direct hit against a constrained regional resource. The SNWA non-residential water surcharge compounds the problem: at 2.5 percent of the total water bill, distribution losses drive up operating costs in commercial and municipal systems faster than in residential accounts.
Desert conditions make the problem harder to catch. Porous soil and caliche beneath Las Vegas properties absorb escaping water before it reaches the surface, allowing leaks to run for extended periods with no visible sign above ground. Professional detection methods are required to find them.
American Leak Detection of Southern Nevada locates leaks in water distribution infrastructure for commercial properties and municipal utilities across the Las Vegas Valley, including Henderson, North Las Vegas, Whitney, and Summerlin. We’ve been developing proprietary detection methods since 1974, and every engagement follows our founding principle: Leak Detection Without Destruction™.
Commercial property operators and municipal utility managers can reach our team directly at (702) 291-8793 to schedule a water distribution system assessment.
Why Facilities Managers & Utilities Choose American Leak Detection of Southern Nevada
As the Original Leak Specialist™, we’ve spent decades refining the techniques we apply to distribution system work. That depth of method development in the Las Vegas market shows in the quality of findings our technicians produce on complex commercial and municipal projects.
Our technicians arrive on time, complete projects within the agreed timeframe, and leave the site clean. Before work begins, our Know Before You Go pricing approach gives commercial and municipal clients full cost information upfront with no surprise charges. American Leak Detection of Southern Nevada is also Preferred by Top Insurers, which can support claims processing when water distribution losses involve an insurance component. Our Las Vegas location is licensed and bonded with a bid limit of $500,000 NV, qualifying us for large-scale commercial and municipal distribution projects.
Detection Methods for Water Distribution Systems
We apply three complementary methods to water distribution system work. Each addresses a different diagnostic question, and together they produce a complete picture of system integrity.
Acoustic Correlation
Our team places sensors at two points along a pipeline. The sensors detect the sound of water escaping through a crack or break, and the system calculates the exact leak location from the time difference between signals. Acoustic Correlation works accurately across long pipe runs and multiple pipe materials, making it the primary tool for locating leaks in buried distribution infrastructure.
Pressure Testing
A section of pipe is isolated, controlled pressure is applied, and any drop is monitored. A pressure drop confirms a leak and provides data on severity. We use Pressure Testing to confirm suspected problem areas and to validate sections following repair work.
Flow Monitoring
Flow Monitoring tracks water movement through the distribution network in real time. By comparing inflow data to consumption records, discrepancies that indicate non-revenue water (NRW) loss are flagged. For larger networks, Flow Monitoring is often the right first step for identifying where NRW loss is occurring across the system.
All three methods are non-invasive and conducted above ground. Leaks are located before any excavation takes place, protecting infrastructure and limiting disruption to ongoing operations.
How Las Vegas Infrastructure Stresses Distribution Systems
Southern Nevada’s water supply from Lake Mead carries high concentrations of dissolved minerals, including calcium and magnesium. Over time, these deposits build scale inside distribution pipes, narrowing flow capacity, increasing internal pressure, and accelerating corrosion at joints and fittings. Pipe systems that might hold for decades in softer-water environments reach failure points faster here.
The Southern Nevada Water Authority provides wholesale water treatment and delivery to the greater Las Vegas Valley, serving approximately 2.4 million residents and visitors. System integrity at the property and campus level connects directly to regional water management goals. American Leak Detection of Southern Nevada serves the full Las Vegas Valley, including Henderson, North Las Vegas, Whitney, and Summerlin, with the same methods and documentation standards we apply to any large-scale distribution engagement.

“This was truly a surprise! They completed the work on time and for less than was quoted. They were very conscientious and treated my home as if it was their home. “From the "get-go," the office/phone person who answers the incoming calls, was, on every call I've made, no waiting with multiple ringing, the person answers right away, and with a perky, personable attitude. I've had the same plumbers on multiple occasions arrive on time or even early, with smiles on their faces. Their work habits were totally professional and with the ability to do more than just concentrating on the job at hand. I asked questions, many questions and without missing a beat, still working on the plumbing issues, were able to answer my questions. With any other plumbing issue/issues, I'll be asking for the same plumber.”- Bruce Brent
